Who We Are

The Cosmopolitan Chamber of Commerce is organized to promote the development of a broader economic base through the creation and strengthening of new businesses and the expansion of under-utilized business enterprises. The Chamber was founded in Chicago in 1933, and is an interracial partnership of corporate and small firms, community organizations, institutions and leaders. The Chamber works in strategic alliance with others throughout Chicagoland and the State of Illinois. Nearly 70 years of history has proven that citizens with Common interests can together have a positive impact on local business as well as the community-at large.

Purpose:

To promote development and growth of the economic base and improve the business environment in the areas served.

Objective:

• Encourage and advance the civic and business interests in the areas of its operations;
• Help persons engaged in business to overcome obstacles that are the result of various racial, ethnic and cultural factors;
• Stimulate new businesses and aid minority businesses and business owners with training, referral services, individual assistance, and information services.  Encourage minority businesses to participate in the Chamber’s activities;
• Operate the School of Business Management and other educational activities;
• Develop linkages between minority and non-minority businesses for mutual benefit;
• Represent minority business in an advocacy role;
• Work with other groups and government to develop joint efforts in support of minority business;
• Promote membership in the Chamber for all businesses servicing the minority community;
• Promote community projects, stimulate good citizenship, and encourage interest in public affairs and civic and commercial activities.

The Cosmopolitan Chamber of Commerce School of Business Management will provide specialized training in the areas of finance, marketing, certification SBA 8A and general management for small businesses.  The Chamber will also assist minority and women business owners with Certification applications to the City’s Department of Procurement and other public and private bodies.
